how to select your bait boat ?

by helio on Feb.13, 2010, under Family, Hobbies, bait boats, radio controlled hobby, remote control

Don’t we all love the peace of nature while angling for some great carps?
Next thing, I am sitting at a pool full of carps and I need to select a great spot for my swim.
In the best case you have been feeding the fish frequently over weeks at the same location, which could give you a pretty good chance of encountering quite some large carps at your sweet spot.
Most of the time we are talking about hard to reach places, which puts us for another challenge: get our rig and bait over to that presumed ideal fishing spot.
So we would like to be able to locate the fish and get our rig and bait to that spot with maximum accuracy and minimum risk.
We require an instrument to carry both bait and hook to the place full of fish.
Thanks to modern technology we have the perfect solution via a wireless controlled bait boat. If the rc bait boat is fitted with a fish discoverer, you can finally fulfil all the aspirations of a real carp or pike angler: find the ideal fishing spot and get yourself over to that perfect position with rig and bait to catch them fish.
If you start looking on line for radio controlled bait boats you will find a large variety of rc bait boats. Therefore we recommend that you make up your mind about your goal and your demands carefully.
Do you need the fish finder function on your bait boat?
Verify if your rc bait boat has a fish finder function, because you will need it sooner or later to find out where the fish are located.
Please verify if your selected bait boat offers the fish finder option. Two possibilities: it can be integrated in a later stage as an option, or the bait boat already has the finder function integrated as a standard. This fish finder option is most of the time not cheap so it can be quite interesting to know if you can integrate it later on in your rc baitboat.
What is your usual weight of bait for your swim?
An important characteristic of bait boats is their capacity expressed in kilogram(kg) or pounds(lbs) A too heavy loaded bait boat can get into trouble. So if you need quite some bait for your swim, you can consider paying quite a bit more for bait boat of higher capacity or accept multiple trips to your swim.
What is your desired maximum fishing range?
Loosing control over your bait boat is a risk related to your fishing range and the status of your battery. Always stay within the specified limits of range of your bait boat with a well charged battery. It is good practice to anticipate loss of radio control and even better to provide means to collect your bait boat via a row boat for example.
When do you fish?
If fishing at night is an option for you, the bait boat will need to be selected for. You will be in need of navigation lights and preferably a led indicating your bait has been dropped. The real big-ticket models even allow you to direct your bait boat to the desired place via GPS co-ordinates.
How much are you willing to spend?
There is a radio controlled bait boat for every budget starting from 100€ up to more than 1000€, but do pay attention to the accessories as they tend to be quite expensive.

Choosing The Right Mini R.C. Cars

by radiocontroller on Feb.02, 2010, under Hobbies, radio controlled hobby, remote control

Choosing the right remote control car isn’t all that complicated. That’s after a conclusion to make it a hobby, of course. Sometimes, the reasons for why it becomes a hobby are just because there isn’t enough space indoors for anything else, so outdoors someone may go. And a good remote control car can be very exciting and go very fast - up to 75 MPH in some instances.

Given all that, what are a few things a person should know about a remote control car? Well, for starters, the term “remote control car” can usually be interpreted to mean “radio controlled car.” Notice the word “usually” was said? This is because remote control can mean a car controlled via a electrify tether to the vehicle. For current purposes, though, it’s best to stick with a car that’s controlled via a radio.

A remote control car set-up can be as simple or as complicated as a person would care to make it. There are a lot of cheap (fewer than five bucks) models out there, and these might be a wise alternate for very young children. They don’t have a lot of hand-eye skill, and a car that doesn’t cost a constellate could make it loose on a parent — who thinks their child might like to get into the hobby in a big way - help him or her explore a bit.

Real radio control cars are capable of some impressive performance tricks, though. So take a second to learn something about them. For starters, there are a few categories of these vehicles. Two of them relate to their propulsion technology - electric, or nitro/gas - and one on type (truck), which can be either electric or nitro/gas. Nitro is a term for a mixture of Nitro methane, methanol, and oil. It’s easier to just call it gas. Either of the two propulsion technologies has its pros and cons.

The truck category in the remote control car field is its own world. And models can come in 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive and either electric or gas, so take a few minutes to check them out and then decide on an actual car or mayhap release with the larger-tire big rigs. After the conclusion about power mode and typecast of vehicle, the next thing to decide on - and probably the most authoritative - is cost.

Cost is normally a matter determined by whether the remote control car is what’s called a ‘toy grade’ or a ‘hobby grade’ model Toy grade was touched upon briefly, and it might be okay when just starting out and experimenting. But most dangerous hobbyists, and even more than a few beginners, go with a remote controlled vehicle of the hobby grade standard.

The hobby grade remote control car dominates this particular world. It offers high quality and long life, which a miniature grade can’t come close to, to be honest. After deciding to go with hobby grade, it needs to be distinct to whether to build one or to buy one already built. Preassembled vehicles are called ‘RTRs’ or “ready to run.” If a trust to build one from scratch - from a kit up - is in evidence, then the alternative is pretty obvious.

Choosing the right remote control car comes down to a few simple considerations. How much to spend, what kind (car or truck, or both), electric or gas, and then whether to buy ready-made or needing to be built from a kit. Take a few minutes to search the basics of selection, covered in other paragraphs, and then go for it. A remote control car can be a fun and diverting hobby for many, providing hours of fun and enjoyment for all ages and abilities.

Carp Tackle:Bait Boats

by helio on Jan.10, 2010, under Recreation and Sports, bait boats, radio controlled hobby

I was sat on the bank enjoying a days carp fishing. The weather was good, the water was calm and the bite count was quite productive.

The pond is located in a large private, well hidden area. There are generous coverings of lily pads and other greenery.

About 4 hours into the day, a chap had arrived on the opposite bank. After tackling up and before he cast for the first time, I saw him put what looked like a remote controlled boat.

My first thoughts were ‘How can he think of playing with a remote controlled boat when fishing?’ I was thinking how I could show my objections when he put this boat into the water. He steered it over the area he was about to fish. The boat was very quiet, much quieter than the standard remote controlled boat. It was at that point I realised he must be baiting the fishing area using this device.

I’ve never come across this technique before and was intrigued. I walked around to investigate and I was impressed. It was a bait boat. You stock 2 channels in the top with bait. When you’ve taken the boat to the area you intend to fish, you simply open 2 flaps on the boat which releases the bait into the water.

Simple and marvellous idea. I am thinking of adding this to my collection of carp tackle.

Bait Boats - Love Them Or Hate Them?

by helio on Jan.10, 2010, under radio controlled hobby

Bait boats have revolutionised certain areas of modern carp fishing, and are without doubt gaining popularity among 'big water' carpers. However, their overuse at certain venues has caused some consternation to other anglers sharing those facilities, as well as opening a heated debate as to whether or not they remove an element of skill in one's fishing. Clearly there are pros and cons of using them, and like any other piece of complex equipment, it requires a modicum of common sense when used in a public arena. Particularly, on busy waters where consideration of other anglers should be exercised. Sadly that is not always the case, and only serves to pour fuel on the fire from a minority group of less thoughtful boat users.

Like any other type of equipment there is a right time and place for its use. This article is not an attempt to help cement the vast difference of opinion concerning bait boat use, but merely to illustrate some points that I've recently become aware of regarding their application. Love them, or hate them, they are here to stay, and I don't think anyone can argue against the fact that they are a highly innovative advance in carp fishing technology.

When bait boats are mentioned, I find hard not to replay the image in my mind of Chris Yates blowing one to smithereens with a double-barreled shotgun, when the hapless skipper of the boat allowed it to chug through his swim! (A priceless scene from the enchanting BBC Television series: A Passion For Angling). Leaning heavily toward the 'old school' style of fishing myself, I totally understand where Mr Yates was coming from, and the point he was trying to put across with this dramatic footage. But, as entertaining as this viewing was, I would've been a little miffed if I'd seen my £1000 bait boat being destroyed before my eyes!

There ability to place baits accurately in areas that would otherwise be inaccessible by virtue of overhanging branches or distance, has been well documented in many other articles similar to this, and I would be stating the obvious if I were to pursue that thread. However, in their defense I feel there is one salient point that is not mentioned as frequently; that being of safety!

I recently had the pleasure of fishing alongside a very accomplished carp angler and staunch advocate of bait boats, on a public lake surrounded on one side by housing. He expertly placed two baited rigs and a substantial quantity of pellets with the aid of his boat, one under an overhanging bush on an island at a range of approximately eighty metres, then a second at around one hundred metres, in close proximity to the opposite bank. Both spots would've been impossible to cast to with any accuracy due to a strong side wind, and certainly would've been without any free offerings.

Due to a battery terminal problem, he had to resort to casting the third rod with a single bait to the end of the island - which I thought was rather ambitious considering the wind, and a long chuck in any one's book. A powerful cast sent the 4oz lead and rig hurtling toward the spot, as it neared the tip of the island he feathered the line to slow it down. Regrettably though, an over compensation for the wind saw the lead hit the island with a resounding thud, startling some nesting geese in the process!

It was only after he was forced to pull for a break, leaving the baited rig behind in the process. That we both realised that had he 'cracked off' the lead on the cast, in all likelihood it would've landed in the back garden of one of the houses directly behind the small island he was aiming at! Or worse still, though someones back window! I don't have to paint a picture for you to make you aware of the damage, injury, or fatal consequences being hit at high velocity with a large lead projectile can have. I know personally of two people who have been hit with leads, one received a broken nose, the other a fractured scull and was in a coma for two weeks!

A similar incident occurred when the same angler arrived at another lake, and proceeded to set up and ship out his baits with the aid of his bait boat. Before he'd completed this task he was approached by the bailiff, and was advised that fishing in this section of the lake was no longer permitted, due to an 'accident'. Opposite to this particular swim was a lakeside cafe with a wooden alfresco deck area overhanging the waters edge. The bailiff further explained that the ban had come into effect due to two young boys 'cracking off' leads, one of which landed on the deck area, narrowly missing a patron! But kudos to this bailiff, he let my friend continue fishing in the swim seeing as he was not casting.

Sure, bait boats can be a pain at times, I can't argue against that, but there are instances where they are far safer than casting, to people, and of course wildlife. And I doubt that there are many true carper's out there that don't feel a pang of guilt, when they leave a baited rig hung up on a tree; as the result of a dud cast. There is nothing worse than seeing a tethered bird, or a dead one entangled in fishing line!
