Carp Tackle:Bait Boats

by helio on Jan.10, 2010, under Recreation and Sports, bait boats, radio controlled hobby

I was sat on the bank enjoying a days carp fishing. The weather was good, the water was calm and the bite count was quite productive.

The pond is located in a large private, well hidden area. There are generous coverings of lily pads and other greenery.

About 4 hours into the day, a chap had arrived on the opposite bank. After tackling up and before he cast for the first time, I saw him put what looked like a remote controlled boat.

My first thoughts were ‘How can he think of playing with a remote controlled boat when fishing?’ I was thinking how I could show my objections when he put this boat into the water. He steered it over the area he was about to fish. The boat was very quiet, much quieter than the standard remote controlled boat. It was at that point I realised he must be baiting the fishing area using this device.

I’ve never come across this technique before and was intrigued. I walked around to investigate and I was impressed. It was a bait boat. You stock 2 channels in the top with bait. When you’ve taken the boat to the area you intend to fish, you simply open 2 flaps on the boat which releases the bait into the water.

Simple and marvellous idea. I am thinking of adding this to my collection of carp tackle.

Carp Fishing - A List of Terms

by rcfan on Jul.22, 2009, under Recreation and Sports

Carp fishing tackle can be highly specialised. Below is a short compilation of some relative words associated with carp fishing apparatus and carp fishing gear.

Terms Associated with the Carp Family

Barbels: The 2 organs situated on the upper jaw section of a carp which bears a resemblance to whiskers. Barbels help the carp find food in murky water.

Cloopers: The carp that feed at the top of the water.

Mudders: Carp that eat at the ground of the water. You can tell this by the mud they stir.

Coarse fish: All species that are not members of the trout or salmon families.

Terms that are Connected to Carp Tackle and Rigs

Leader: A stretch of heavy-built line which is approximately 30 to 40 ft. in length. Leaders are affixed to the main line; they are less apt to be apraded. A hook length is subsequently fixed to the end part of the leader for connecting the carp bait.

Shock leader: A length of extra heavy line that can withstand the force of a long cast.

Feeder: A secondary piece of carp tackle; it is a cage which is connected to the leader rather than a sinker. Bait would be stuffed into the feeder in order to entice carp to the hook which is baited.

Float: A bobber that’s more sensitive than the familiar white and red globes. Floats are long and slender and function as bite detector signals as well as devices for presenting the bait to the carp.

Semi-fixed: This is an item of carp fishing tackle that will let the leader disengage from the line if there is a snag. A bolt rig is a type of semi-fixed rig which will (by self-acting) hook carp at the time that the leader tightens up.

Fixed: Means that a leader or tackle doesn’t slide up or down a line or pull loose upon breakage of the main line.

Stringer: Baits that are hook-less and are positioned close to the bait that is hooked—these are “free flowing” bait.

Terminology Connected with Carp Bait

Tiger nut: A small tuber that is an excellent carp bait which is terrific bait for attracting carp}. Tiger nuts have to boil to thicken and become sticky before a person can use them.

Chum: Bait that is put into the water for purposes of enticing fish toward the baited hook.

Boilie: A kind of bait which is made of hard, round dough. Boilies are made up of a mixture of water and an assortment of grains; a thick dough is made from this—then, the dough is formed into ball shapes which are boiled.

Be sure to ask your general carp fishing tackle shop for detailed information about angling for this popular UK game fish.
